Kitties and Summer

Where have I been... well basically just in my kitchen. I have baked lots of cakes and cookies

My Kitties have had some wild summer adventures. We will start with Smokey. Smokey started becoming a big girl. We waited about 2-3 months to long. She would howl and cry. WOW, scared all of us and herself. Once she healed, the hormones started to mellow out. That will never happen again to any other cats.  She has gotten acclimated to wearing a harness outside. She does not totally dig it, but if she wants to go outside on it goes. There was also the evening where she did not have it on, ahhh what a rascal. She can be a total challenge to catch when she wants to stay outside. I spent over a  half hour trying to catch her. She did sleep all night that evening.

Smokey is still afraid of people. If someone comes over, she will still hide. Usually in the basement. She has a comfy perch where she can hide or just watch you fold the laundry. When Smokey is outside, the noise from people is less scaring her. Smokey is a talker. Her makings are just beautiful.

She is such a beauty.

Smokey loves to play with your feet. Nibbling..

I am skipping to Apple Jax. The Princess of the house. She always wants to go outside, but only on her terms. She will claw on the screen and whine, but not let you catch her. Such the DIVA. Once you get a hold of her, a bit of a yowl, and out she goes. She is usually the last one to come in.

Apple Jax is such a princess

I was laying on my stomach taking pictures of cats.
I am 1 crazy girl, who loves her cats

Apple Jax has come around so much this summer. She hangs out with the rest of the cats. Apple is still slightly anti social. She wants to be loved, and I love giving her love. We  sleep together regularly.

Black Cherry.... Well he has had quite the summer.
He was chased up a tree by a stray dog early in the summer. My neighbor and I held the 12 foot ladder while my husband climbed up and tried to reach the cat. CAT crying, husband not happy. Black Cherry stayed inside for a few days. Very afraid of being outside. About 2 weeks later, he scooted outside and no one noticed. He spent the entire night outside. The next morning he was sitting on the front porch. Smokey was sitting by the front window, crying for Black Cherry. Husband opened the door, and in ran the cat. He did not have on a collar. We found the collar near a tree in the front yard the next day. Blasted cat.

Lazy boy
I love my Black Cherry. He is such a typical male. Needy, a bit whiny and demanding of love. AND really not all that smart. SO, 2 weeks ago, Black Cherry got out again. It was dark outside and he can be hard to see. My Husband asked me to help look for the cat. We start looking for him, and we hear a howling noise. The cat on on my neighbors porch roof. We have NO idea how he got up there. We believe he was being chased and he ran up the arborevite.

Again my Husband pulled out the 12 foot ladder, and grabbed the cat. Ahh, Black Cherry, you crazy kitty. Last Sunday, my husband was grilling, all the cats were outside, and Black Cherry was playing with a wasp.  The wasp sort of won. All of  a sudden, a loud howl came from Black Cherry and he was limping. Stung his paw. We removed the stinger and killed the insect. He was ok. He still wants to go outside, but he never stays out long. You need to sit outside with him. He gets anxious and wants to go inside...

As we celebrate Labor Day Weekend, the unofficial END of Summer, please still consider your pets welfare. It still gets hot outside, watch for animals in closed vehicles. Watch for animals as you are out and about. They all need care. Have a safe holiday...

Second Blogiversary

TWO Years.... Wow... Who would think I still had anything to say. Yesterday, was the actual anniversary. I was going to make a pan of bars last night. Test out a new recipe, but I went to yoga instead. By the time we ate dinner, I did some house crap, the night was done. I have three treats trays for Saturday, so maybe tomorrow. I did start my brown butter cookie doughs. I still think if dough can sit overnight, Especially chocolate chip cookies (Featured       ) they have such a more intense flavor. That is why some cookies are just good and others are "delicious."

Today, my feature is Smokey. She is such a pretty little kitty.

We purchased a harness for her. The other two cats would be outside and she would sit by the door and cry. I am such a wimp. I would bring her outside, but then she would get snoopy and wonder to far out. Harness and a lease, she was happy. She was using Apple Jax's lease, so she was stuck inside.

Princess of the Rock

Whoa, I need to sit on the patio for a few minutes.

Back prowling for creatures

So, I spend all this time on cat photography, I really need to work on my
photo skills for my food. This will be this year's project
OR maybe when I grow up, I will be an animal photographer.

GREEN Cleanse Smoothie

I finally did it. I went GREEN, and I loved it. Why do I procrastinate? This drink was fantastic. So full of flavors and goodness. My Husband thought it tasted "OK". He is still opting for a chocolate, nutty, fruity kind of drink. His drinks have also gotten healthier. It is funny how this had evolved in just a month in a half.

Every year at the 15th of January, we start a major exercise - diet program. 1 month into the program, my Husband has lost 7 pounds. SHAYLA  - ZERO.  Down 2 pounds, Up 1 pound, Down 6 ounces, Up 1 pound. I have lost some inches, ("very Happy") but no weight. My flexibility has improved, and also my ability to jump higher and do more push ups. SO.... there are some changes that are working.

On Sunday, I found a couple of recipes for Green Cleanse. They were all almost the same. To the refrigerator I went. Pulled out my necessary ingredients and went from there.

Do you see this beautiful color of GOODNESS

Smokey was my Supervisor.
Actually she just wanted to look out the window and I was there in HER way

Smokey

Thanksgiving this year was great. It was a small crowd, but we had a great day. Last year, my Mom was sick and we celebrated on Friday. That was fine and all, BUT the turkey was dry and the stuffing was wet and everything needed some salt. Fast forward, This years dinner was fantastic. Moist turkey, cooked in a bag, (HIGHLY recommend) delicious stuffing, and mouth watering rolls. OH my.. Heaven was sitting at our table. My sister made these fabulous mushrooms, I made HOME made green bean casserole and a new cranberry recipe. Dinner was out of this world.

Dessert.... Fall cookie tray. New recipe for pecan bars. Wonderful. My sister made a caramel infused chocolate cake that was light and yet rich tasting. Her girls are becoming Martha's. I made my old stand by.... Sour cream raisin pie... My favorite as always.  (featured last November).

This is Smokey. Smokey was born on September 1st at my Mom's house. Along with six other kitties.
Smokey was a rescue kitty of sorts. She was born at my Moms, received plenty of food, a warm place to sleep, and some love. She was NEVER abused at all.

One Friday evening in Mid Novemeber, my Husband was deer hunting at my Mom's house. He stopped at the house to see my Mom and talk and maybe have a beverage. While he was inside, Smokey got up into the motor of my Husband's pick up truck. Found an area to sit and be warm. My Husband drove to our house, about 20 miles. The next morning he drove to work, about 10 miles. As he pulled into his garage at work, he heard a kitty crying. He realized it was coming from his truck. Open the hood, and out jumped this very scared cat.

He tried to find the cat, but it was hiding in his shop. Brought the cat some kitten food, a small pile of sand for bathroom issues and went from there. The kitten took a week to warm up to my Husband.  I believe it was still somewhat traumatized. The next week, he bought the kitten a litter box and went from there.

On Thanksgiving Day, he brought the kitten home. Again, freaked out to be in a new place. Black Cherry was not happy at all. Hiss and made other scary noises. This little kitty was invaded his territory in cuteness. Apple Jax was very indifferent. I believe, she was hoping it would go away.

Smokey is incredibly SOFT. Has a bit of a cry, but not whiny
This little girl has invaded our hearts. She has become SO lovable.

Loves to snuggle and lick your fingers and bite your toes

AND Smokey loves to sprawl.
One of her lives may be gone, but she will be in our lives for a very long time.
